We all know that every New Year we feel compelled to start afresh – I mean New Year, new start….. right?
We write down our resolutions and goals for the coming year…….
FUN FACT #1: Did you know that the average person sets the same New Year’s resolution 10 times!
FUN FACT #2: After just one week, a full 25% of people have already given up on their New Year’s resolutions
Despite this we still feel that the change to the New Year marks a great time to reflect and reset. It’s a time when we can craft a plan for making 2016 our best year ever.
And yes, it is as good as any time to start making changes, but the best kind of changes to make are those that actually have results.
But what is it about New Year’s resolutions that make them so difficult to follow through? Why is it that the average “plan” just doesn’t work?
How often have we written a list of goals for the year, then looked back on that list 6 or even 12, or more likely 18 months later and realise that maybe one or two could be crossed off the list? And yet if you had to rewrite that list right now would there be any real differences?
I don’t know how many journals I have begun at the start of another year and earnestly poured my heart into my goals and aspirations for the coming year. And yet nothing seems to change…..!
But there is a solution to this – and it is called
So what is all this hype around Dream Maps (or Vision Boards)?
A Harvard Business study revealed remarkable statistics relating to goal setting and success.
- 83% of the population does not have goals
- 14% have a plan in mind, but are unwritten goals
- 3% have goals written down
The study found that the 14% who have goals are 10 times more successful than those without goals. The 3% with written goals are 3 times more successful than the 14% with unwritten goals.
Clearly, a person is more likely to achieve a goal if it is written down.
And the best way to work with Dreams and Goals is with a Dream Map. The main reason – and the most exciting part – of this is that it involves all your senses, not just the tactile feeling of writing, and the logical order of the brain. In fact the logical brain orders are left at the back of the queue!
Dream Maps involve the creative side of the brain, giving us a peek into what we really want, even when we don’t clearly know what it is or how to articulate it!
A Dream Mapping Workshop gets us engaging the creative side of our minds (yes, we are all creative) as well as all of our senses to start us on the pathway to that future we have always truly wanted.
Forget those old journals that have been gathering dust! In fact clearing them out would make a good place to start de-cluttering and making space for something new in your life!
Come and be intrigued by how, with the use of Dream Maps, those seemingly insignificant details we bring out of ourselves as we place pictures on our Vision Boards suddenly focus us on our desired direction, support the whole dream and with the recognition of this how easily our dreams become goals – and come into being!
